Chicago is hoping to turn Huskie, Dylan Sikura, into a Blackhawk as soon as his college season ends with Northeastern University. The Blackhawks drafted Sikura during the sixth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
Sikura can become a free agent if he chooses not to sign, like 2010 first-rounder Kevin Hayes did when he signed with the New York Rangers. But Stan Bowman hopes otherwise, he told The Chicago Sun-Times the following:
“I’m not trying to bother Dylan so much, I have spoken to his family advisor, I guess. He doesn’t have an agent since he’s a college kid. But we’ve had some discussions about how that would look and when he would be here. That’s definitely our plan.”Hopefully Dylan’s older brother, Tyler, can sway his brother’s decision, as the Hawks signed him to a one-year contract last week. Tyler was on an AHL contract with 16 goals and nine assists in 57 games with the IceHogs. During the Hockey East Tournament this weekend, the left handed forward scored two goals on Friday and one on Saturday against UMass. Sikura is tied for third in the NCAA in points (48) and points per game (1.55). He is also tied for first in the NCAA in power play goals (12). To me, what stands out here, is the fact that he is tied for first in power play goals because the Hawks could certainly use some of those.
Sikura is from Aurora, Ontario, and is nominated for the Hobey Barker Award, given to the nation’s top men’s ice hockey player.
