The Chicago Bulls are getting some rim protection. Andre Drummond is signing with the team to a two-year deal according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The deal is worth 6.6 million dollars over the lifetime of the contract with the second year being a player option. This helps the Bulls in an area of struggle that the team desperately needed.

Drummond spent the past two seasons playing for both the Philadelphia 76ers and the Brooklyn Nets playing alongside stars.

Drummond's Fit

Drummond isn't the ideal rim protector for this team but he provides another large body near the rim. He's still only 28 years old and in his athletic prime. At one point, Drummond was considered one of the elite rebounding bigs in the NBA. He's averaged double-digit rebounds all but twice in his career, last season and his rookie season. Drummond played with Joel Embiid two seasons ago coming off the bench and averaged 8.8 rebounds per game. Drummond can come in and match size with other teams in the Eastern Conference that have given the Bulls trouble. Teams like the Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, and Cleveland Cavaliers are the top teams that come to mind. The Bulls won't have to rely on their guards as heavily to get involved in the rebounding and could allow for players like Patrick Williams more freedom as a power forward. For Drummond's career, he's averaged 13.3 rebounds with most of that coming as a starter however he's shown he can be productive coming off the bench.

Other Moves

The Bulls still need help on the wing and adding depth will definitely help. Playing DeMar DeRozan more heavily at the three proved to be fruitful last season but making sure he has a breather is needed. News that Boston is signing Danilo Gallinari once he is released by the Spurs doesn't give the Bulls much room to try and find shooting on the open market. Unless there is a scenario where the front office can spin a trade for some shooting on the perimeter. Currently, the well is beginning to run dry for the Bulls.
