Nate Robinson Knows What the Chicago Bulls Need Most Right Now

Chicago Bulls fans probably remember Nate Robinson with a smile on their faces these days. Typically guys who are 5'9 have no business in the NBA. Yet for one season with the team, he laughed in the faces of those critics. He averaged 13.1 points per game off the bench and then went off in the playoffs. Against the Brooklyn Nets, he had games of 17, 34, and 20 points. Helping the team to an upset in a seven-game series. Then he had 27 points in a shocking Game 1 upset of Miami during the Easter Conference Semifinals.

Sadly the Bulls weren't able to keep him after that 2012-2013 season. However, it seems the point guard never forgot his time in Chicago. It was some of the most fun he ever had playing basketball. During a recent interview on Instagram Live with Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson, he talked about his time with the Bulls. He expressed belief that Derrick Rose wishes to return.

Then he provided an interesting answer in regards to the current roster. Specifically what do they need most in order to get back to winning basketball? To him the answer was obvious.

"A couple of dogs with the young guys. Guys that want to rebound. Players like Joakim Noah and Luol Deng. They need somebody of that type of caliber of Bulls basketball."

Even though Robinson hasn't played since 2016, he's kept apprised of the current landscape. What he says is the total truth. In 2019-2020, the Bulls were the 2nd-worst team in the league when it came to rebounding. They averaged just 41.9 per game. No player on their roster averaged double digits and Wendell Carter Jr. was the only one to get above seven per game. That is as bad as it gets.

Carter is the only player they have who can be classified as a "dog." He's capable of being that inside presence but his usage up to this point hasn't been the best. Head coach Jim Boylen made matters worse when he tried to stick Lauri Markkanen with the job of focusing on rebounds. Something that was never a strength of his game.

New VP Arturas Karnisovas has plenty of work to do. If he's going to focus anywhere though, it has to be the front court. Somebody else is required to crash the boards.
