A Positive Craig Kimbrel Update?

It's been two weeks since Craig Kimbrel last pitched and after last week's bleak outlook on the Cubs closer there is a positive update from the weekend. Or is it?

Kimbrel was placed on the injured list with an issue in his right elbow and although the team was optimistic he could return after 10 days, that being last Thursday, his timetable was pushed back at least a week.

He threw his second bullpen session since being shutdown and hey, good news?

Ugh...OK.

So, I'll be honest, I started this post actually being optimistic about Kimbrel, but none of these comments are making me feel confident about him coming back any time soon. I mean, he's just now going to face live hitters, maybe in the middle of the week?

And then there's this.

Kimbrel's recovery has been slower than anticipated, but Cubs president of baseball operation Theo Epstein said earlier this weekend that the recent progress has the team hopeful about the closer's ability to return before the end of the season.

Soooo, the Cubs went from saying Kimbrel's IL stint was precautionary, to he could be back for this upcoming Cardinals series, to maybe he'll be back before the end of the season.

What the fuck.

UPDATE

All right, so Kimbrel is going to throw to live batters on Tuesday and even though I know better than to fully believe the Cubs on anything regarding injuries, Joe Maddon is now saying Kimbrel may be back for the Cardinals series after all.

Keep your fingers crossed I guess.
