Absolutely Love This NL Executive Talking Shit About Bryce Harper

Robert Murray of FanRag Sports shared some incredible comments by an NL executive and boy I wish Murray would have said what team this guy was from so I could feel sorry for the fan base. Apparently Bryce Harper just isn't worth all the hype. Via FanRag Sports.

Last week, I was asked whether Washington nationals superstar Bryce Harper was overrated. I gave my answer, then I received three text messages from a top National League executive with his answer: Text one: “He’s simply overrated. The good ain’t worth the bad. He’s a losing player. Cares about himself more than the team. If I was in charge and had money, my team would not pursue him. We would use that money to sign 2-3 winning players.” Text two: “He’s a losing player. I would not sign him. I would use that money to sign 2-3 winning players.” Text three: “If he gets more than 10-years, $300 million, I’d be surprised. I would not give him 10 years period and certainly not at that AAV. He’s just not worth it. He’s a selfish, losing player.”

"He's a losing player." "He's simply overrated." Are meatball fans who spam Cubs reporters on Twitter now part of MLB front offices? Seriously, I feel sorry for the fans of the team that this executive works for, but luckily he's not actually running the team. Probably a good thing this dude isn't in charge, but it also got me thinking about something else. There's no way this NL executive is alone in thinking the same thing about Bryce Harper, right? I mean yeah I get where Harper can rub you the wrong way and maybe the old, wrinkly executives in front offices hate fun and for that reason alone have a bias against Harper. What I'm basically saying is the Cubs don't think like that and I absolutely love that the unnamed NL executive feels so strongly against signing Harper in the offseason. I hope this idiocy spreads throughout the league, making it even easier for the Cubs to sign Bryce. Bryce Harper a losing player? He's put up a career 28.6 fWAR in 831 games. Second highest fWAR among National League outfielders since his MLB debut in 2012. Selfish? How is Bryce Harper selfish? Just because the entire Washington Nationals franchise can't get beyond the NLDS doesn't mean Bryce Harper is a loser. But hey, if you don't want him, the Cubs will gladly welcome him to Chicago.
