The Cubs love themselves reclamation projects and past injuries don't scare them off on pitchers they try to give another shot. According to a recent report from Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs have worked out reliever Drew Storen and also have interest in Zack Jones who had a workout in Arizona.
Storen is coming back from Tommy John surgery, which forced him to miss all of 2018. He last pitched for the Reds in 2017, and the results were ugly, recording a 4.45 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 54.2 innings. That was after a 6.21 ERA in 33.1 innings with the Blue Jays to finish the 2016 season.
The right-hander began his MLB career with the Nationals in 2010, and had a few amazing years in Washington. During his six-year run with the Nationals, Storen saved 95 games and had a 3.02 ERA in 334 innings. In 2014, he had a 1.12 ERA in 56.1 innings. He also saved 43 games in 2011 and 29 in 2015, so he does have experience being a closer.
But what changed in the past couple years? Obviously there was the elbow surgery at the end of 2017, but Storen also started to lose velocity on his fastball.

Not great. Hopefully the 31-year-old can bounce back from the elbow surgery and right now it seems like he's on the Cubs radar.
The other pitcher the Cubs seem to have some interest in is Zack Jones. The 28-year-old has bounced around in the minors since 2012, and despite a career 2.89 ERA in the minors Jones still hasn't made it to the big leagues.
The right-handed pitcher has only thrown 62.2 innings in the last three years, including only one inning in 2017. Last season Jones had a 2.49 ERA in 25.1 innings at Double-A.
Last week the Cubs signed Brad Brach to a deal that has an option for 2020, while inking George Kontos and Junichi Tazawa to minor league contracts as well. The Cubs are reportedly not done trying to add more bullpen help.
