This was some pathetic bullshit from St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Miles Mikolas. Ian Happ accidentally hit Willson Contreras with his backswing in the first inning of Thursday night's game that unfortunately busted open the catcher. Contreras was taken out of the game, as the Cardinals' trainer could not stop the bleeding from the right side of Contreras' head.
This is how Contreras got bloody.
Again, it was a backswing, completely an accident. Contreras and Happ even embraced as the catcher walked off the field, but Mikolas then threw at Happ on purpose. The pitcher went up and in on Happ and then drilled him with a 3-1 pitch. The umpires had a short meeting and Mikolas was ejected.
And good because that came with two outs and all of a sudden the Cardinals got into trouble. The Cubs loaded the bases, scored a run with a bases-loaded walk, and then Christopher Morel drilled a two-run double to left field that gave the Cubs a 3-0 lead. All that after Mikolas drilled Happ.
Three hitters into the start of a four-game series, the Cardinals lost their starting catcher and then their idiot starting pitcher made it worse by getting ejected himself.
