Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon has done some creative things during spring training and in the regular season to keep his team loose, yet it's his ex bench coach Davey Martinez who has done the weirdest thing this spring training.
Martinez finally got his first chance at a managerial position, taking over a pretty talented team in the Washington Nationals. The problem has been that despite the Nationals being a good team they have never won a single playoff series. So, Martinez is trying to get his squad over the hump this year and to convey that message he brought in actual camels to camp on Wednesday.
First base coach Tim Bogar and third base coach Bob Henley each were on top of a camel Wednesday morning, as players had to walk between them to get to practice.
And of course "My Humps," by the Black Eyed Peas was playing in the background in case no one got the message.
Just Davey Martinez learning from the master Joe Maddon. Yet, I'll still take the Nationals losing in the NLDS this year, so sorry Davey, maybe use a mime next time.
