Cubs And White Sox Could Be In Same Division When 2020 MLB Season Begins

All righty, so this is what, proposal number 4 that's been leaked to the media? But hey, this one is probably the most realistic because players will be able to be with their families, teams will get to play in their home parks and there will be some travel to different cities.

Of course, when dealing with whatever type of 2020 season MLB is going to have, there's obviously going to be one huge change. According to USA Today, MLB is now thinking about starting the regular season in late June and breaking up the league into three, 10-team divisions.

Major League Baseball officials have become cautiously optimistic this week that the season will start in late June, and no later than July 2, playing at least 100 regular-season games, according to three executives with knowledge of the talks. They requested anonymity because the plan is still under consideration.
MLB is considering a three-division, 10-team plan in which teams play only within their division – a concept gaining support among owners and executives. It would abolish the traditional American and National Leagues, and realign the divisions based on geography.
The plan, pending approval of medical experts and providing that COVID-19 testing is available to the public, would eliminate the need for players to be in isolation and allow them to still play at their home ballparks while severely reducing travel.

So, forget about the National League or the American League because in 2020 we could simply be seeing the East, Central and West divisions. Yeah, that means the Cubs and White Sox would be in the same division under this new plan for the 2020 season.

The only difference besides lumping in both divisions into one is that the Central would get the Atlanta Braves and the East would take on the Pittsburgh Pirates.

No details were provided on the playoff format.

The story also says teams would have about three weeks to get ready in a second version of spring training before starting the season in either late June or early July.

We want to be as optimistic as possible, but at this point you can't put anything in stone. Again, this is at least the third different proposal that's been reported during the past month. We also don't know if teams will have to begin the season playing in Arizona or Florida and even if games do take place in home cities, will fans be allowed to attend?

But hey, I'll take anything I can get at this point. And, the Cubs and White Sox playing in the same division??? Finally, that rivalry will actually mean something.

Oh and how about the Dodgers and Astros possibly being in the same division? Yes, please.
