So, normally when these things happen it's more of a half-assed prediction by a broadcaster. But no, not Jim Deshaies, who perfectly nailed his prediction of Kris Bryant's two-run home run in the eighth inning of Monday's 5-1 Cubs win.
Bryant's been back from the DL since the start of September and although he's not hitting for the huge power we're used to, he has been hitting the ball harder during the last week or so. He just missed a home run against the Brewers at Wrigley Field a week ago, but on Monday he finally broke his home run drought and Jim Deshaies was all over it.
That was awesome.
Before that opposite field dinger, Bryant's last home run came on July 20, against the Cardinals.
So far this month Bryant is slashing .320/.407/.480, with a home run, five RBIs, eight runs scored, five doubles and six walks. Looks like he's feeling a lot better than the first time he came back from the DL in July.
So hey, JD, how about giving us some lottery numbers tonight.

The bullpen was reconstructed during the early part of the offseason, but the heavy lifting seemingly began once the calendar flipped to January. After missing out on other free agent starters the Cubs pivoted to the trade market and acquired Edward Cabrera. Now, free agent rumors are picking up...
Going to an arb hearing isn't always the worst thing to happen, but it certainly can cause some nasty feelings, especially coming from the player. Luckily, the Chicago Cubs have avoided arbitration with Justin Steele as the two sides have agreed on a new deal. Thursday marks the deadline for...
This popped up on the radar a few days ago, but I honestly didn't pay much attention to it because it seemed like a throwaway comment from Jon Heyman. The national MLB insider said the Cubs had checked in on free agent Cody Bellinger and that was the extent of the report, so automatically you're...
Last offseason the Chicago Cubs absolutely needed to acquire a top hitter and they got Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros. Now, heading into the 2026 season Jed Hoyer's top priority was to upgrade the rotation and he's delivered by trading for 27-year-old pitcher Edward Cabrera from the Miami...
