I mean at this point we should be used to the disappointment, but this is getting more pathetic day by day. According to Gordon Wittenmyer, the Cubs never actually offered a contract to Carlos Correa.
Here’s what Wittenmyer wrote Wednesday night on NBC Sports Chicago.
You can read the entire article here.
Again, what else is there to say other than the Cubs being a pathetic franchise right now. An embarrassment for fans to root for this organization that supposedly had serious intentions of putting together a competitive team for the 2023 season and they can’t even bring themselves to offer a deal to their top free agent target?
What kind of bullshit is that? And those talks were most likely Correa and Scott Boras pointing to the free agent deals that were already signed by other players and making it clear that it was going to take a record-breaking deal to get Correa. Hey, at least the Cubs had the good decency to not waste Correa’s time and quickly exited discussions when they knew they couldn’t come close to what the Giants ultimately signed him for.
The front office, ownership, everyone responsible for the decision making in free agency is a joke right now. Bunch of scared losers. There is no clear plan. There is no clear message from the team to the fanbase. What are we doing here? Oh and we're already getting the sense that the Cubs are no longer a destination that free agents want to play for. They've put themselves into a position where they must overpay to lure the best free agents to the north side of Chicago and for whatever reason, the team doesn't have that factored into its plan.
I have more thoughts about Jed Hoyer and the Ricketts. Read those in the link below.
The Cubs continue to drop the ball at even attempting to sign good players. If they don’t land Dansby Swanson, then this entire offseason is a complete failure.
The Cubs are reportedly one of the teams Swanson is considering signing with. ESPN's Jesse Rogers gives the Cubs a 50/50 shot and predicted that the former Atlanta Braves shortstop will pick the Cubs. We talked about Swanson on the Cubs, if that happens, and the other needs they must address to salvage this offseason on the Pinwheels And Ivy Podcast.
