There's no way around it so let me just come out and say it.
It's a slow news day in the land of the
Chicago Cubs.
However, it was revealed yesterday the type of champagne the Cubs used to celebrate their post season victories and I have to say, I was quite intrigued by what I read. I guess I should clarify now and tell you that the liquid goodness the team was spraying all over the place technically wasn't even champagne, it was wine.
If you're like me and drink neither wine nor champagne, it sounds weird as shit saying the Cubs were spraying wine all over the place in a celebratory demeanor but to be technical, it can only be champagne if it comes from the Champagne region of France. Since the booze the Cubs were using comes from California, it's considered to be wine.
Now that we got that out of the way, one would assume the brand of wine that teams use to celebrate their championship victories would cost hundreds of dollars. I was pretty shocked when I realized that the same nectar of the Gods that the Cubs were drinking and spraying is actually very affordable for the common folk.

Michael Austin of the Chicago Tribune wrote a pretty lengthy article yesterday about the brand of wine that the Cubs use as their celebratory booze of choice. Once again, I don't claim to be a 'wino' and the only wine/champagne I drink is the $9.99 bottle you can get at your local Wal-Greens.
I'm a classy guy.
I was intrigued to find out that the Cubs alcohol isn't very far off from the aforementioned ten dollar bottle that I like to enjoy every now and then. The Cubs use Mumm Napa Brut Prestige, which retails for $22 a bottle and is only 12.5% alcohol.

Immediately when I saw that the wine contained the word "mumm" in it, my brain jumped to one of my favorite scenes from a classic movie, "Meet the Parents." Greg goes to the local convenient store to try and buy the most expensive bottle of champagne they have to impress his girlfriend's parents.

That's exactly what the Cubs did too. They bought a whole bunch of Mumms. During their historic post season run, the team used over 1, 200 bottles of the wine which was supplied by Binny's Beverage Depot.
So if you're an optimist like me, you'll begin stocking up on this delicious beverage for the Cubs 2017 run as well.
