Normally MLB doesn't want other teams to take attention away from the World Series, but the league is reportedly OK with announcements such as manager hirings on off days.
Joe Maddon, who was officially hired by the Angels last week, will be introduced as their manager in a press conference on Thursday. That same day might also include the Cubs announcing Maddon's replacement in Chicago.
ESPN's Jesse Rogers was on ESPN 1000 Tuesday afternoon and according to him fans shouldn't be surprised if the Cubs do indeed announce their new manager as soon as Thursday.
And! Don't be shocked when it's David Ross.
Ross has been the favorite to take over Maddon's spot since it was known that the Cubs were going in a different direction in 2020. However, Astros bench coach Joe Espada made a great impression during his interview with the Cubs, leading to a second meeting.
It looked for a minute that Espada possibly leaped ahead of Ross in the running for the vacant manager position with the Cubs, but Ross also had a second interview and talks have progressed.
We shall see, but it's looking like David Ross will be the next Cubs manager.
