This is actually good news for Cubs prospect Nico Hoerner, as the shortstop doesn't seem to have a serious injury after getting hit by a pitch earlier this week. He is being placed on the seven-day injured list, but should be ready to come back next week.
Hoerner only has a bruised wrist, getting hit on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old is slashing .293/.388/.483, in 17 games at Double-A this season. Last year Hoerner was only able to play in 14 minor league games after he was drafted by the Cubs in the first round. He had a shoulder injury that kept him out of action, but Hoerner did play in the Arizona Fall League and put up some impressive numbers.
So, he'll be back by the middle of next week and after turning heads in spring training, Hoerner could easily be battling for a spot on the Cubs 25-man roster next year.
