David Ross Might Be The Newest Manager In The AL Central

The Twins are searching for a new manager and boy will White Sox fans just detest this latest report out of Minnesota. According to the Star Tribune, the Twins have already interviewed their hitting coach James Rowson for the opening and they're also interested in interviewing two former Cubs players. Those two former Cubs happen to be Mark DeRosa and EVERYONE'S FAVORITE David Ross. Via the Star Tribune.

Twins hitting coach James Rowson interviewed for the club’s vacant managerial position Friday, two sources confirmed, and the club also has interest in bringing in ex-major leaguers Mark DeRosa and David Ross to discuss the position.

But the Twins’ interest in DeRosa and Ross might offer a clue into the type of leader they are looking for.

DeRosa, 43, played in the major leagues for 16 seasons and now is an analyst with the MLB Network. Ross, 41, played 15 seasons and now is with ESPN. Both are not very far removed from their playing days — which could help them relate to the current ballplayer — and have proven their communication skills while working on television. The Twins observed with interest as Aaron Boone left the broadcast booth to lead the Yankees to a 100-victory season.

Speaking of the Yankees, there was a report last year that they were considering an interview with Ross. Ultimately, the Yankees hired Aaron Boone. This isn't the first time Ross' name has come up for a coaching position. His name popped up after the 2017 season, when Joe Maddon needed a new bench coach, following Dave Martinez's departure to become the Nationals' manager. However, Ross addressed the open position and said he wasn't interested in jumping right back in to the game. Ross has been with ESPN for two years and also has a role in the Cubs front office and it's obvious that he's liked and respected around the league and will continue to get interest whenever a coaching job opens up. But imagine if Ross does decide to interview for the Twins job and gets it? I mean, White Sox fans already had enough of him when he was with the Cubs for two years and became a cult hero, who then exploded onto the national scene. Grandpa Rossy getting so much attention, as he becomes another ex-player going from the broadcast booth to the dugout? I can already see the endless tweets from White Sox fans getting annoyed by Ross, as he manages Minnesota 16-19 times against the White Sox every year. As for DeRosa, he was also linked to the Cubs last year, when Jon Heyman reported that they tried to hire him and bring him into the organization as a coach. According to Heyman, the Cubs view DeRosa and Raul Ibanez as potential future managers, as well as Boone, who they also tried to hire before the Yankees made him manager.
