There was an off day between game 5 and 6 of the World Series on Monday, so there I was casually scrolling through Twitter, getting ready for some awful Monday Night Football, when Jon Morosi dropped this little nugget on the timeline.
Oh, cool. The Dodgers, who as much as we can point and laugh at their postseason failures, have made it to the playoffs seven years in a row, have a ridiculous amount of talent on the MLB club and their minor league system, can realistically pull off a trade for one of the best players in the game and not hurt their depth at all. Must be nice.
Lindor, 25, is under team control through 2021. He's been an All-Star for the last four straight seasons, while accumulating a 27.2 fWAR in 717 games. That's tied with Jose Altuve for the sixth highest fWAR in MLB since Lindor made his debut on June 14, 2015.
I know it's a pipe dream, I know the Dodgers have the prospects to get it done and the Cubs would probably have to dismantle their farm system to make a deal, but can they please get in on this conversation at least?
Could you imagine an infield of Kris Bryant, Francisco Lindor, Javier Báez and Anthony Rizzo? Excuse me, I need a minute.
I don't care if it would only be for two years. You're the Cubs. You have your own TV Network. The Ricketts own everything in Wrigelyville. The goal should always be to go for it. These aren't the Tampa Bay Rays.
All right. I know there's probably a zero percent chance of the Cubs popping up in trade rumors for Lindor, but that doesn't mean I'll stop demanding it to happen to only end up being disappointed.
PS: can Lindor just demand a trade specifically to the Cubs? Thanks, Francisco, that would make things a lot easier.
