Lost in Alec Mills' no-hitter on Sunday against the Brewers was the Cubs scoring 12 runs!
Pretty crazy considering the Cubs didn't score a single run through the first 17 innings this past weekend in Milwaukee. Yet, you can't help but look at the Brewers pretty much begging the Cubs to take advantage of their mistakes on Sunday.
During the five-run fourth inning, the Brewers made two huge errors, the first coming on what could have been an inning-ending double play off the bat of Javier Báez.
But then something special truly happened in the fifth after Kyle Schwarber walked to leadoff the inning and Báez hustled into second base for a double.
With one out, Jason Kipnis lifted a fly ball to left field, plenty deep to allow Schwarber to score on the sac-fly, but on the play Báez also tagged up and slid safely into third.
And then Báez scored a few seconds later.
Time wasn't officially called and Brewers' third baseman Eric Sogard lobbed the ball over to second base and on the release El Mago immediately sprinted toward home and scored. Love to see it! Say whatever you want and deservedly so this year, as Báez has been woeful at the plate and even his defense hasn't been up to the standard we're used to seeing, but no one has better instincts than him on the field. Oh and how about Báez celebrating Mills' no-hitter before he even made the play on the final out.
