As always, I think any rankings list is mostly meaningless, but it is interesting that everyone in MLB seems to be forgetting that Kris Bryant was off to one of the greatest starts of any career before his shoulder injury in 2018. Anyway, Jim Duquette ranked the top-10 position players right now in MLB and he listed Javier Baez number five.
I mean, we all love Javy, but the fifth-best position player in the game right now? I'm sure he appreciates the compliment, but this top-10 is a joke.
Yeah, Baez finished runner-up in the National League MVP race in 2018. His defense is incredible, but despite all that right now, Kris Bryant is the better player and he's nowhere to be found on that top-10 list.
Other guys who are a lot more deserving than Baez to be ranked among the 10 best position players are Jose Ramirez, Alex Bregman and Anthony Rendon.
And I get it, the list is referring to the best players right now, but again, even with Baez carrying the Cubs offense in 2018, he's certainly not fifth and not top-10 either. Hopefully after this season I change my opinion.
Someone please screenshot this and have it ready for me at the end of 2019, because I want Javy to make me look like a complete dumbass. I hope this ends up on freezing cold takes.
