Kris Bryant is going to pop up in trade rumors all offseason, so of course we're going to see people giving their best shots at a trade proposal.
Bryant, who has two years left of arbitration before becoming a free agent, has been the Cubs' best player since his MLB debut in 2015. He's been one of the best third basemen since then too. It's not like the Cubs are out here actively shopping the 2016 MVP, but they'll certainly be listening to offers for him this offseason.
Here's one that will make Theo Epstein hang up the phone immediately.
Joel Sherman, New York Post baseball columnist and MLB Network Insider, has been doing a segment this offseason being a team's GM and what he would do if he was in charge. On Thursday, he had the Phillies and one trade proposal Sherman had was Philadelphia making a huge move, making a deal with the Cubs for Kris Bryant.
All right, so you'd think Sherman would include a couple of the Phillies top prospects in return for the Cubs. You thought wrong.
Sherman's genius idea to get Bryant from the Cubs? Basically the Cubs include Bryant in a deal just so they can get rid of Jason Heyward's contract. In return the Cubs get Jay Bruce and Jean Segura plus a few prospects who aren't at the top of Philadelphia's farm system.
Really, include Bryant in a salary dump deal?
And that was today's reminder that almost all trade proposals are bad.
