The Cubs had a whole bunch of injuries suddenly pop up all at once in September, but it looks like they may finally be getting some good news.
After Pedro Strop was ruled out for the regular season with a left hamstring strain, the Cubs were left with Dillon Maples, Jaime Garcia and Jorge de la Rosa getting the final seven outs of Friday's 3-2 win over the Reds. But hey, the overworked bullpen is getting Brandon Morrow back in the next couple days.
Morrow last pitched on July 15, and although we should remain cautious on how effective he will be, hopefully he returns and provides some stability. Morrow threw a simulated game on Saturday and said he'll be activated in the next couple days.
If he wakes up on Sunday feeling good, Morrow could be back in time for the Arizona series.
As we've discussed before, Morrow will be eased back and won't be put in the closer's role immediately.
In other injury news, Jason Heyward also appears to be on his way back and it could be as early as Sunday.
Heyward was placed on the disabled list at the end of August with a hamstring issue and there really hasn't be a clear timeline for his return, although he has remained optimistic about playing again this season.
Yet, he's not the only Cubs outfielder who'll be returning to game action.
Kyle Schwarber has been dealing with a tight back and has missed several games during the past week.
Well, the latest update is more great news for the Cubs.
The Cubs have a 1.5 game lead over the Brewers in the division with 15 games left on their schedule. Let's hope getting Heyward and Schwarber helps out the lineup and hope for a nice surprise from Morrow because the bullpen really needs a lift right now.
