Joe Maddon Is Making A Complete Dumbass Out Of Himself

The minute Joe Maddon said he wanted all the information before giving his thoughts about MLB's investigation into domestic violence allegations against Addison Russell, he sounded like he actually cared about the situation. Yet, when the biggest piece of information is available to consume, Maddon smugly shrugged off the thought of reading Melisa Reidy's description of the abuse she said she suffered through during her marriage with Russell, including abuse in front of their young son. Maddon said he'll wait to read the report after MLB finishes its investigation and guess what, he'll probably be reading the exact same things Reidy wrote in her blogpost. According to Ken Rosenthal, MLB didn't put Russell on administrative leave just because of the blog. No, MLB put him on paid leave because they have interviewed Reidy and other witnesses. The league’s investigation includes interviews with Reidy and numerous other witnesses, and with officials gathering additional information since Russell went on leave, sources said. Russell, 24, has one child with Reidy. Baseball reached out to another woman with whom Russell has fathered a child, the woman confirmed to The Athletic’s Katie Strang. That woman declined to comment at this time under the advice of her lawyer.

That report was from Tuesday night, as it's getting pretty clear that Russell will be suspended. Before that, Maddon was on 670 The Score and was once again asked about reading Reidy's allegations. Here was his response.

Again, I'm not going to sit here and claim to be so outraged that Maddon is being insensitive, it's a really bad look for a guy who seems to care, but I will say that he's being a dumbass. Joe Maddon is the manager of a MLB team and whether you like him or hate him, he's in a position of power. When he says, "Anyone can write what they want with social media these days," he swiftly dismissed not only Reidy's allegations, but also every single person who comes out and addresses their abuse. Again, this could have been so freaking easy for Maddon. Literally all he had to say was, "we take the allegations seriously and we'll see what the investigation finds out." That's it. But no, for some reason he had to be dismissive when again, from the start he said he wants all the info, but then refuses to read the allegations. It's simply a bad look. You know, Maddon's always been a players manager and I've argued before that he does a great job of taking the heat off his players and pointing the negativity toward himself in the media. But he might be taking the players manager thing a bit too far here, being willfully ignorant of a pretty serious situation. And at this point it's pretty clear that he just doesn't care about the allegations. It's not like he's being neutral either because he's blatantly been dismissive of what Reidy has said since last Friday. UPDATE: Joe finally read it.
