So, the other day when the Cubs scratched Kris Bryant from the lineup against the Mariners I made a little joke.
You know the stories, like when the Bulls almost killed Luol Deng.
Anyway, the Cubs medical staff, training staff, whatever it's referred to as, is having one hell of a season. The latest questionable thing has to do with Javier Báez, who was back in the Cubs' lineup Thursday in Milwaukee, before being scratched before first pitch. Now, he might not play against the Brewers at all this weekend.
Last Sunday, Báez stole second base, but unfortunately he jammed his thumb on his slide attempt. He played for a few more innings before exiting the game after not be able to hold a bat anymore.
He got an x-ray on Sunday and nothing came up. The Cubs initially said that he just needed a few days off. Then, after being out of the lineup for the fourth straight game, the Cubs announced on Friday that Báez will have an MRI in Chicago on Saturday.
Before he was scratched from Thursday's lineup, Joe Maddon said he thought Báez's thumb was at 80%.
Seems like this MRI could have been done earlier?
The Cubs mismanaging yet another injury? Absolutely stunning.
