You know, sometimes teams do need a kick in the ass, a spark, something to get them going during a bad stretch. I know that some Cubs fans think this team was never going to be close to good anyway, but regardless it's clear that with some of the performances across the board this team has underperformed and they should be in a better spot.
Anyway, Tuesday's wild win 7-6 win in 11 innings over the Milwaukee Brewers is hopefully a turning point for the 2023 Chicago Cubs and you also love to see David Ross showing some emotion after the game. It was a shit-show for the umps and the Cubs were on the short-end of the stick. Some brutal ball/strikes call that did not go the Cubs' way and then this ridiculous non-call on what obviously looked like runners interference.
William Contreras was credited for a double that drove in a run in the sixth inning with two outs.
Also during the game, the Brewers randomly decided to close the roof.
Ross went off on everyone.
Via the Chicago Tribune.
Asked if the Brewers were allowed to close the roof during play, Ross barked: “I f------ thought it was horses---. I don’t know.”
It’s likely Ross did know a little about the rules, which was why he was so upset.
Why the Brewers decided to close the roof during the game was unknown. The weather in Milwaukee called for potential rain later in the day, but the skies were clear at the time the roof was closed and it never rained. Shadows moving across the field are not valid reasons for closing the roof.
Here's Ross' entire rant on the umps and the Brewers following Tuesday's game.
There we go, Ross, some fire and passion!
Don't need the fake rah rah stuff from a manager, but I'll admit that it is nice to see Ross show some emotion and fight for his guys publicly every once and a while. Oh and speaking of feeling fired up, how about rookie catcher Miguel Amaya and right-handed reliever Daniel Palencia, who was making his MLB debut, fire up the Cubs dugout after the bottom of the 10th inning ended.
Love seeing this.
Palencia threw two scoreless innings and was obviously helped out by Ian Happ throwing out two runners at home, but it's not like the young righty was getting hit hard. Palencia only allowed one base hit in his first MLB game and he got the win.
Also, credit to Amaya because although those were great throws from Happ, we sometimes see catchers not being able to come up with them cleanly or they lose control when attempting to make a tag. Amaya has been fantastic behind the plate this year and he's showing why he was once viewed as one of the best prospects in baseball.
