Despite there being several reports from the Winter Meetings that the Orioles hired Cubs bench coach Brandon Hyde as their next manager, their front office was being weird about it and kept denying it.
I guess they worked out all the details and on Friday the Orioles officially named Hyde as the new manager.
Hyde reportedly interviewed with four other teams for their vacant manager position and was a finalist for the Twins job. He also interviewed with the Rangers, Blue Jays and Angels. Hyde was the bench coach for the Cubs in 2014, and after Ricky Renteria was replaced as manager by Joe Maddon the team kept Hyde on the staff as the first base coach. He remained there for a few seasons before once again getting the bench coach position in 2018 with the Cubs. The Mets were reportedly interested in Hyde being their bench coach this past season. Congrats to Brandon Hyde and good luck in Baltimore.
