A few days passed before Pete Crow-Armstrong once again reached a historic milestone and he accomplished it by hitting a home run that can only be compared to himself in 2025. PCA is a freak of nature.
The Cubs center fielder crushed his 15th home run of the season Wednesday night against the Rockies. The fourth-inning blast was golfed out to right field on what wasn't exactly in the wheelhouse of most hitters...well that is if your name isn't Pete Crow-Armstrong.
Since 2008, when pitch-tracking technology was implemented around the league, only one other player has more home runs on pitches that low. Pablo Sandoval hit five homers on pitches 1.10 feet or lower and Crow-Armstrong is already up to three of them in less than 200 MLB games.
Cubs manager Craig Counsell praised Crow-Armstrong's unique skill to not only make contact with pitches way below the strike zone, but slug on what are usually wipeout pitches against batters.

‘“It’s unique, the damage he can do below the strike zone,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said. “But that’s the point — it’s damage. It’s home runs. It’s extra-base hits. When he gets a ball that’s just below the strike zone, it’s a little bit of his go-zone. It’s his hot zone. That’s really unique.” ….
The curveball that Crow-Armstrong crushed was just 1.08 feet off the ground, per Statcast, making it the second-lowest pitch hit for a homer in this MLB season. The only one lower was 0.86 feet off the ground and it was launched against the Brewers on May 2 by — you guessed it — Crow-Armstrong. In fact, he has three of the four lowest pitches hit for homers since the start of the ‘24 season.”
At only 23-years-old and the first season he's been on the roster since Opening Day, Crow-Armstrong has also become the fastest player in Cubs history to hit 15 home runs and steal at least 15 bases.
The last Cubs player to reach 15-15 before the All-Star break was Javier Báez in 2018. PCA is only the fourth player in franchise history to accomplish this feat and he still has 41 more games until the 2025 All-Star Game.
It's crazy to think about, but right now you pretty much expect Crow-Armstrong to get to 20 HR and 20 SB by the All-Star break, which would make him the first Cubs player to ever do that.
Oh by the way, PCA is currently the only player in MLB so far in 2025 with at least 15 home runs and 15 stolen bases.
Incredible.
A few days away from June and the Cubs have the most valuable player in the National League according to fWAR and his name is Pete Crow-Armstrong.
Pete Crow-Armstrong NL Ranks
3.2 fWAR: 1st
15 HR: t-4th
50 RBI: 2nd
16 SB: 3rd
43 R: 2nd
9 FRV: 1st
8 DRS: 2nd
Yup, the Cubs have a superstar in the making. There's a reason the team is desperately trying to negotiate a contract extension with PCA as soon as possible.
