REPORT: Cubs Will Have A New Bench Coach In 2020

The Cubs will have a different bench coach for the fourth straight season.

Since the end of the regular season Mark Loretta was interviewed by the Cubs for their manager position and after it went to David Ross he was still being considered to stay with the team as the bench coach.

After spending nearly a decade working in the Padres front office the Cubs brought Loretta over to the Cubs in 2019, adding him to Joe Maddon's staff. It was Loretta's first coaching gig. But after just one year with the Cubs Loretta won't be coming back in 2020.

This may be nothing against Loretta, but it's been reported that the Cubs are prioritizing someone with previous managerial experience to become the bench coach for first-time manager David Ross.

Former Padres manager Andy Green is reportedly on the Cubs' radar as they continue to make changes to their coaching staff.

Although nothing has officially been announced it appears as though Green is the front runner to be the next bench coach of the Cubs.

After 2017, the Cubs lost back-to-back bench coaches because of managerial vacancies, as Dave Martinez left to become the Nationals manager and then Brandon Hyde was hired by the Orioles to be their manager in 2019.

The Cubs will also have a new third base coach in 2020 and they have already replaced Lester Strode with Chris Young to be the team's new bullpen coach.
