The Cubs have a few coaching changes to make this offseason, as David Ross continues to assess his staff for 2020. We know that the Cubs will have a new third base coach and although Mark Loretta is still being considered to return as the bench coach, the Cubs have other candidates they're interviewing for that position.
Earlier today, news broke that Lester Strode, the longest tenured Cubs coach, would not be returning as the team's bullpen coach next season. However, it appears that Strode, who's been in the Cubs organization since 1989, isn't leaving the team for sure. Jon Heyman is reporting that the Cubs have offered him a different role in 2020.
ESPN's Jesse Rogers reported that Chris Young, former Phillies pitching coach, interviewed for the bullpen coach job with the Cubs.
Former Red Sox pitching coach Dana LeVangie has also interviewed with the Cubs for one of their coaching positions, although Heyman didn't make it clear for which one.
But it's likely for the bullpen coach position.
LeVangie, 50, spent the last two seasons as the pitching coach for the Red Sox. Before that he was Boston's bullpen coach, while briefly filling in as the team's bench coach in 2015. LeVangie has been with Boston since 1997, first as a bullpen catcher and then eight years as a scout before joining the coaching staff in 2013.
As far as the bench coach job, Andy Green is the newest name linked to the Cubs, while John Farrell is reportedly not being considered as a candidate to join Chicago according to Patrick Mooney.
The Cubs will also have a new third base coach in 2020, as Brian Butterfield departed for Anaheim to join Joe Maddon's staff with the Angels.
