According to ESPN's Jesse Rogers, left-handed starter Jon Lester is heading to the injured list after leaving the home opener with tightness in his left hamstring.
Although this was somewhat expected, it's still a kick to the gut for the Cubs. Still no word on how serious the injury is.
Following Monday's 10-0 win over the Pirates, Lester said he only felt a cramping sensation while running the bases. He was taken out in the third inning and had an MRI on Tuesday.
Joe Maddon made it sound pretty clear that Lester would miss his next scheduled start on Sunday against the Angels and hopefully this will only be a 10-day stint on the IL for Lester.
His replacement? Well, that will most likely be Tyler Chatwood.
Joe Maddon confirmed that Lester will go on the IL and that he'll miss one or two starts.
Let's hope it's only one start, but at the same time you don't want the Cubs to rush Lester back too quickly just to see him tweak the hamstring again.
The good news is that Maddon didn't make it sound too serious, saying Lester will only miss a couple starts at most.
