Less than two weeks ago the Cubs hired Adam Beard, who was part of the Cleveland Browns coaching staff for the past four years. Now, the Cubs have hired yet another NFL coach. It looks like Beard has added to his coaching tree, bringing former 49ers assistant strength and conditioning coach Shane Wallen to the Cubs.
Prior to his coaching job in San Francisco, Wallen was a strength and conditioning intern with the Browns, working for Beard. The Cubs named Beard as the team's director of high performance back in January.
All right, so the new market inefficiency for the Cubs is hiring NFL coaches.
If Shane Wallen can come in and keep everyone strong throughout the season and most importantly maintain health for most of the roster, then just give him coach of the year honors after what happened in 2018 for the Cubs.
He's coming from a football background, so I guess getting a different perspective can always be useful.

Wallen, now an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the San Francisco 49ers, could be best described as a body mechanic. He works on the bodies of his players, toiling away at individual weight lifting forms, tweaking workout regimens for specific players and their positions, measuring and analyzing gaps between thighs for optimum sprinting speed. He turns athletes into well-oiled athletic machines.
“Up at this level, we get guys that essentially are Ferraris and Lamborghinis,” Wallen said. “But, say, the chassis needs to be replaced or there’s a bad radiator — something’s out of whack. … So our job is to kind of go in, analyze and dissect the athlete individually, see what their strengths are, see what their weaknesses are.”
Well, good luck and congrats on the new gig with the Cubs, Shane.
Hmmm, wonder if he has any connections to Bryce Harper.
