Three Pitchers Cubs Fans Have Had Enough Of In 2019

I thought the Brad Brach signing was fine. When you looked at his numbers during the past five years or so, he was a slightly worse version of Pedro Strop. After an awful first half with the Orioles in 2018, he was traded to the Braves and was great, recording a 1.52 ERA in 27 appearances.

No clue what the hell happened during the offseason, but at this point the Cubs can't have Brach pitch an a meaningful game again. In 25.1 innings this year, Brach has walked 22 batters. He has a 6.39 ERA and 2.01 WHIP. He's allowed four earned runs in each of his last two outings and at least one run in six of his last seven.

I wanted a phantom injury for Brach earlier this season and the Cubs need to do it now. Bring up literally anyone. Dillon Maples might walk the bases loaded, but at least he'll strike out the side right after.

Kyle Ryan put up some decent outings together when he was called up in April, but he hasn't been particularly effective overall. He's a left-handed pitcher who hasn't been getting lefties out. Trade for a lefty already.

Mike Montgomery will always been a World Series hero. Last out of Game 7. Thank you for that. Unfortunately, it seems like Montgomery peaked in Cleveland that November night three years ago.

Since 2016, Montgomery has progressively gotten worse after each season. He dealt with a lat injury and spent more than a month on the injured list starting in April. He's kind of been fine since coming back, with his best outing coming in relief on May 9, pitching five scoreless innings against the Marlins.

Montgomery is another guy who isn't really a shutdown lefty against left-handed hitters. He still has two more years of arbitration left. Look for a trade maybe? Sell other teams on his ability to start?

Craig Kimbrel is coming up in a couple weeks. Cubs are still trying to trade for a lefty reliever and pitching prospect Adbert Alzolay is definitely on the radar and should be up this summer.
