Tim Anderson struck out on an 83mph splitter from Shōta Imanaga in the sixth inning of Saturday night's game and the Miami Marlins shortstop was not happy with the crowd at Wrigley Field. He had been booed and Anderson gave it right back to Chicago Cubs fans, jawing back at them after striking out, emphatically saying, "fuck y'all," as he made his way back to the dugout.
I think the whole White Sox vs. Cubs rivalry is mostly annoying, but no one can deny that there is obviously a heated tension between both fan bases. A lot of White Sox fans resonated with Anderson when he was on the south side and some still do, so they obviously loved the shortstop's response to those Cubs fans, who were probably doing more than just booing.
Anderson helped the Marlins jump ahead of the Cubs in the nightcap of Saturday's double header, ripping an RBI-double and then scoring on a double in the fourth inning. Anderson's run that gave Miami a 2-1 lead was the first earned run allowed by Imanaga this season.
However, it was Cubs fans who ended the night on top. While the offense was quiet through five innings, rookie Alexander Canario got Wrigley Field buzzing with a 416-foot home run to start the sixth inning.
Michael Busch then delivered a two-run single that gave the Cubs a 4-3 lead later on in the sixth inning.
The Cubs got an additional run after Anderson could not catch a liner off the bat of Garrett Cooper.
