The biggest moment of the game came in the bottom of the eighth inning as Dan Winkler walked the bases loaded with one out. David Ross brought in closer Craig Kimbrel, who struck out the next two batters and then retired the side 1-2-3 in the ninth to seal the 4-2 win for the Cubs. Kimbrel earned his 350th career save and achieved another feat for the first time pitching in the regular season.

Kimbrel had a six-out save for the Red Sox during the 2018 postseason.

Gregory Polanco smashes a double off the wall in left field after being down 0-2 to start the at-bat. Jacob Stallings walks and the Pirates have two on with two outs. Dustin Fowler walks. Arrieta missing his spots and the Pirates aren't chasing the breaking stuff. Pitcher up to bat with the bases loaded. Arrieta strikes out Anderson on a high fastball to leave the bases loaded. Contreras strikes out looking after starting the at-bat 0-2 on two questionable strike calls. Bryant with another extra base hit. He doubles down the left-field line. 5 of his 6 hits this year have been extra-base hits. Rizzo makes hard contact, but hits it into the shift. He's thrown out from right field. Bryant goes to third. Báez strikes out swinging on a foul tip. Cubs can't drive in Bryant. Score: Cubs 1, Pirates 0

Arrieta with another 4-pitch walk. Newman with a one-hop smash to third. He reaches on a single. Reynolds hits it hard to Marisnick in center. Frazier tags up to third. Arrieta falls behind again 3-0, but Moran strikes out swinging. Newman runs on the 3-2 pitch, slams the break a few steps short of second, gets in a rundown to try and steal a run as Frazier dances off third, but Báez doesn't bite. Pirates still with runners on the corners. Evans flies out to shallow right-center. Arrieta escapes without any damage. Score: Cubs 1, Pirates 0

Pederson flies out to left. Marisnick with his second hit of the day. A jam-shot over the head of the shortstop to left field. Marisnick gets picked off first. Heyward flies out to Polanco in right field. Score: Cubs 1, Pirates 0

Polanco gets jammed, but he bloops one to shallow left field for a single. Stallings singles to right and the Pirates now have runners on the corners with no outs.

Fowler smokes one deep to right field. Both base runners tag up and the Pirates tie it 1-1. Arrieta strikes out Anderson looking. Frazier singles to right field and the Pirates lead 2-1. Newman flies out to Heyward. Score: Cubs 1, Pirates 2

Bote hits one softly and gets thrown out by Anderson. Arrieta strikes out swinging. Contreras lines a ball close to the line in left, he races to second is called out. Cubs ask for a review and the play stands. Score: Cubs 1, Pirates 2

Reynolds flies out to Marisnick in left-center. Moran crushes a double off the wall in left. Evans grounds out to shortstop. Tough play by Javy who made it look easy. Moran stays at second. Polanco thought he had a home run, but Marisnick makes the catch on the warning track in dead center field.

Bases loaded for the Pirates and David Ross is bringing in Craig Kimbrel. Nasty knuckle curve in the dirt gets Fowler to strike out swinging. Wilmer Difo pinch-hits for the Pirates. Kimbrel strikes out Difo swinging on a fastball up and away! Pirates leave the bases loaded.
