A New Yasmani Grandal Suitor Emerges

With the White Sox basically confirming they are going to be selling at the deadline, much of the team is expected to be in trade talks or moved at some point. One of the names that will almost for sure be moved, as he is a free agent at the end of the year, is Yasmani Grandal.

After a season that saw him battle injuries and struggle, Grandal has bounced back and is having a decent season. With the scarcity of talent at the position, he could be in high demand for a team that is looking to make a deep run into the playoffs. A lot of teams should show interest, but a new suitor might have emerged, as the Yankees recently got some unfortunate injury news.

Trevino Replacement?

With the news that Yankees Catcher Jose Trevino will get season-ending surgery, the immediate thought is that Yasmani Grandal could be a target for the Yankees.

Grandal would likely become the best-hitting catcher on their roster, as he provides an upgrade with the bat over Kyle Higashioka. For a Yankees roster that is in last place, the addition of Grandal could prove to be a nice upgrade and potentially shoot them up higher in the standings.

This is a move that the Yankees might be interested in, as Grandal would not break the bank in terms of prospects, as he is a free agent at the end of the year. He also serves as a great veteran presence in the lineup and the clubhouse.

The Yankees are likely to be buyers at the deadline, so don't be surprised if you get a notification that Grandal has been traded to the Yankees. What the exact deal would be is still up in the air, as Grandal's value could potentially be negotiable.

What A Deal Could Look Like

To this point, Grandal is hitting .250 with seven bombs to date. He also boasts a .317 OBP, which is a lot lower than his typical OBP, but the average is higher than usual, so it has been a curious season in terms of statistics.

These are pretty solid numbers for a catcher, so he could get a nice prospect in return. Luckily, the Yankees have some solid prospects that they could trade for Grandal.

Now at this point in his career, Grandal is not going to fetch a top 100 prospect, but he could get a top 10 prospect from the team that trades for him.

Luckily, the Yankees have a few arms in the 6-9 ranking range in their farm system. With the Sox system depleted of pitching, they could easily target one of these arms. They would likely want an arm that is close to the MLB, so AAA arm Will Warren could be a potential target, as he is boasting a 3.74 ERA with 78 strikeouts in 68 innings.

If the Sox were able to acquire one of their younger arms, it would be a wonderful deal. I would imagine Warren would be their main target, as he could likely pitch in the MLB this year, and they will need someone to eat up innings.

I expect Grandal to be moved, so hopefully there are a lot of teams bidding for his services.
