Cubs free agent pitcher Cole Hamels has reportedly agreed to a one-year, $18 million deal with the Atlanta Braves.
The Braves have certainly been busy so far this offseason addressing their pitching staff and actually their entire roster.
So much for the Hamels to White Sox talk on Tuesday.
Hamels is coming off a rollercoaster of a season that saw him post a sub-3 ERA through June, but an oblique injury derailed his year with the Cubs. In a recent interview Hamels admitted that he rushed back, leading to a shoulder issue and he wasn't right in the final couple months of the season, throwing only 42 innings in his last 10 starts of 2019.
Hamels will be 36-years-old in 2020.
The White Sox are still in pursuit of Zack Wheeler as he remains their number one pitching target. With Hamels off the board they still have plenty of options on the market to find another veteran pitcher, as the White Sox would like to add multiple starters to their rotation this offseason.
