Before the Nationals took out some frustration on the White Sox bullpen Monday night, an Eloy Jiménez foul ball hit a woman in the stands and she was eventually taken to a hospital.
The White Sox said the fan was responsive following the incident. No further details were reported on the woman's status.
The White Sox do have netting extending past the dugouts, but they don't go all the way down the line. A couple weeks ago a young girl in Houston was rushed to a hospital after an Albert Almora Jr. foul ball hit her.
A few years ago, Todd Frazier also struck a young fan in New York. Will anything change? MLB does require the netting beyond the dugouts, but after the latest incident with the young fan in Houston, players advocated for even more protection for fans.
Hopefully the White Sox fan struck by Jimenez's foul ball is in good condition.
Jimenez went 0-for-3 in the 12-1 loss to the Nationals and despite some awesome displays of power against the Royals during the weekend, the White Sox rookie has oddly not gone deep in Chicago so far in 2019. Overall, he has a higher batting average and OBP at home compared to his road numbers, but he's only slugging .328 compared to .489 on the road.
So far, Jimenez has hit all eight of his home runs in 2019 away from Guaranteed Rate Field.
UPDATE
Here's his first and it just happens to be the longest home run for the White Sox. Eloy broke his own previous mark.
More importantly the fan was released from the hospital and was able to pick up her car.
