Former Chicago White Sox pitcher and current reliever for the New York Yankees has been suspended for the rest of the 2023 season after the league determined that he violated MLB's domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy. Cordero will not be paid for the remainder of the year and will not be able to pitch in the postseason.
Cordero, 31, accepted the punishment. The Yankees released the following announcement after MLB's ruling on Cordero.

“The Yankees are fully supportive of Major League Baseball’s investigative process and the disciplinary action applied to Jimmy Cordero,” the team stated in a press release shortly following MLB’s announcement. “There is no justification for domestic violence, and we stand with the objectives, standards and enforcement of MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.”
Neither the team nor MLB released any further details on the extent of the investigation or actions from Cordero.

Consistent with the terms of the Policy, Cordero will participate in a confidential and comprehensive evaluation and treatment program supervised by the Joint Policy Board.
The right-handed pitcher has been placed on the restricted list.
Prior to the 2023 season, Cordero did not pitch in the major leagues since 2020, when he made 30 appearances out of the White Sox bullpen. During spring training in 2021, the right-handed relief pitcher underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the entire season. The White Sox moved Cordero off the team's 40-man roster following the 2021 season and the right-hander elected free ageny.
In two seasons with the White Sox Cordero recorded a 4.16 ERA in 62.2 innings from 2019-20. In his last year in Chicago, Cordero was terrible, posting a 6.08 ERA in 26.2 innings.
During the 2021-22 offseason, Cordero signed a minor league contract with the Yankees. The pitcher spent the 2022 season in the minors after coming back from Tommy John surgery and after a successful showing in Triple-A, the Yankees added Cordero to their 40-man roster this past offseason.
Cordero has been one of the better relievers for the Yankees in 2023, as he's recorded a 3.86 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, with 34 strikeouts and 10 walks in 32.2 innings for New York.
The 31-year-old pitcher has played for two other teams during his MLB career, appearing in the majors with the Washington Nationals and Toronto Blue Jays. Cordero was also in the Seattle Mariners system, briefly pitching in the minor leagues for them in 2019, before he was claimed off waivers by the White Sox.
