Tim Anderson is still hitting.
Since April 5, when he returned to the White Sox after the birth of his second child, Anderson has gotten a hit in 17 of 20 games, including eight multi-hit games. The shortstop is batting .375, which is second in MLB and first in the American League.
On Monday night against the Orioles, Anderson blasted a two-run homer, which continued his historic start to the season.
Anderson also has 10 stolen bases this season, perfect in all his attempts. He joins only Brian Roberts in MLB history to have at least five home runs and 10 stolen bases before May 1.
Again, MLB history. It's only Brian Roberts in 2005 and Tim Anderson this year.
There's no doubt that Anderson has taken his game to another level to begin this year, but here's another eye-popping stat on the other end of the spectrum.
While Anderson still makes some ridiculous plays at shortstop and has a good arm, he's been shaky at best. Back in 2017, Anderson committed 28 errors in 145 games. Through 23 games in 2019, he already has six errors, on pace for almost 40 errors this season.
When it comes to defensive runs saves, according to Fangraphs, Anderson is tied for last with -8 DRS among all qualified shortstops. The leader is Arizona's Nick Ahmed, who has 6 DRS.
Definitely a lot of room for improvement at shortstop for Anderson.
Meanwhile, Yonder Alonso is only hitting .190 this season, but he's still contributing at the plate with a .320 OBP. He leads the White Sox with 16 walks this year and he's actually struck out only 15 times.
But here's his eye-popping stat. Like Anderson, Alonso hit a two-run bomb against the Orioles on Monday.
He's on pace to top his previous career high in home runs of 28 in 2017, but the most impressive thing about Monday's home run is that it was already Alonso's third homer against left-handed pitching in 2019.
Last year, all White Sox left-handed hitters only hit two home runs against left-handed pitchers ALL SEASON! Both were from Daniel Palka.
Through April 29, Alonso has been killing lefties with the White Sox. He's slashing .308/.438/.731, good for a 1.169 OPS vs LHP. Against righties, he's only slashing .138/.265/.259.
Odd, but the White Sox will take any production they can get.
Despite some real down moments early on, the White Sox are on a three-game winning streak and are getting close to a .500 record at 12-14. They have two more games against the Orioles this week and they start a four-game series against the Red Sox.
