White Sox prospect Nick Madrigal has been underwhelming down in the minors this year. Before Thursday's game, the second baseman was only hitting .250, which is pretty bad because Madrigal is supposed to be a high average hitter considering he doesn't hit for much power and doesn't walk a lot.
Yet, even for Madrigal, the lack of power has been somewhat of a surprise. Through 128 games in the minors, dating back to 2018, he had zero home runs. But he finally hit his first home run in professional baseball.
Madrigal is now slashing .256/.326/.364, in 33 games this season. He has a .696 OPS in 76 minor league games so far to start his pro career.
Oh and then Luis Robert hit a ball to the damn moon last night.
After a slow start in Double-A, Robert has turned it on and is currently on a five-game hitting streak. After going 3-for-4 on Thursday he's now hitting .300, with a .375 OBP and .580 slugging %. Robert has two home runs, six doubles, a triple and five walks in 13 games since he got promoted to Double-A.
