Reinforcements Are On The Way For The White Sox

The Chicago White Sox received some positive news on the injury front. Rick Hahn announced on Tuesday afternoon that Lance Lynn and Eloy Jimenez are expected to begin rehab assignments within the next week. Jimenez suffered a torn hamstring on April 23rd. Before the injury he was batting .222 with one home run and seven RBIs. It was yet another mishap in a long line of rotten injury luck. Jimenez was placed on the 10-day injured list in 2019 with a high ankle sprain only for him to return there two months later with a right ulnar nerve contusion. In 2021 he suffered a torn pectoral muscle in Spring Training which limited him to just 55 games. Jimenez has tremendous power and if he can stay healthy he will be a welcomed addition to the White Sox lineup. Lynn has yet pitch in a game this season. He hit the shelf in Spring Training after leaving a start early with discomfort in his right knee. It was soon discovered he tore a tendon and underwent surgery on April 4th. Lynn was seen throwing off a mound at Guaranteed Rate Field earlier this month. After his rehab stint, he will bolster an already stacked rotation. Last season Lynn posted a 2.69 ERA, with 176 strikeouts and named an American League All-Star. He was also a finalist for the AL Cy Young Award.

Robert Placed On COVID-19 IL

Unfortunately, the positive news came with a bought of negative injury news as well. Luis Robert was placed on the COVID-19-related injured list. He is will miss the entire series against the Boston Red Sox and is expected to miss the weekend series against the Chicago Cubs as well. "Hopefully his experience is relatively mild throughout and we have him back at some point, very possibly next week," Hahn told reporters. If Robert can test negative in two consecutive attempts he can be cleared to play again even before 10 days. His loss is a big blow for the White Sox offense. Outside of Tim Anderson, Robert has been the White Sox's most consistent performer on offense. La Pantera is slashing .285/.319/.438. He also leads the team with six home runs and 17 RBIs. Jake Burger was called up in a corresponding move. Burger made a positive contribution to the team in his first stint with the White Sox this season. On top of playing some stellar defense at third base, he hit two home runs and drove in seven RBIs.
