The White Sox have placed shortstop Tim Anderson on the injured list after he was helped off the field during Tuesday night's game against the Red Sox because of a high ankle sprain. That was one of three moves the team made before Friday night's series opener against the Twins.
The team officially DFA'd Yonder Alonso and have replaced him with Daniel Palka. Meanwhile, left-hander Ross Detwiler is up from Triple-A. He'll start against the Twins tonight.
Anderson, who won American League Player Of The Month for April, will be out several weeks following his injury in Boston.
The 26-year-old ranks third among all MLB shortstops with a .317 batting average in 70 games for the White Sox this season. Rookie outfielder Eloy Jimenez missed a month with a high ankle sprain earlier this year.
Expect Leury Garcia and Jose Rondon to fill in for Anderson at shortstop while he's recovering from the injury.
Detwiler, 33, was a first round pick in 2007 by the Nationals. The 6-foot-5 lefty has made eight starts for Charlotte at Triple-A this year, posting a 3.98 ERA in 43 innings. He has a career 4.36 ERA in 190 MLB appearances, including 83 starts.
Detwiler hasn't started in MLB since 2016, when he made seven starts for the A's. He posted a 6.10 ERA in 16 appearances overall in 2016 between Oakland and Cleveland.
In 2018, Detwiler pitched six innings for the Mariners, his only MLB appearance of the year.
