Olympic baseball is coming back in 2020 and two White Sox prospects have been selected to be on the USA Baseball team that will try and qualify for Tokyo 2020.
On Thursday, USA Baseball announced its 28-player roster for the Premier12 Tournament, the first of three potential tournaments in which a country can qualify for the 2020 Olympics.
White Sox prospects Andrew Vaughn and Tyler Johnson made the team. The group stage of this tournament will take place on Nov. 2-5 in Mexico, with the final round in Tokyo on Nov. 11-16.
If Team USA doesn't qualify in November it will have another chance to do so in March.
Vaughn, who was drafted by the White Sox in the first round in 2019, quickly moved up to Single-A Winston-Salem this year. The right-handed hitter slashed .278/.384/.449, with six home runs in 55 games at three different minor league stops in 2019.
Johnson missed the first half of 2019, but after a solid showing at Double-A upon his return the White Sox sent him to the Arizona Fall League, where he made the Fall Stars Game.
