This play pretty much is a microcosm of Daniel Palka's start to the 2019 season and the current state of the White Sox.
It was absolutely miserable on Wednesday afternoon, as the White Sox were trying to stop their four-game losing streak and a sweep by the Rays. The game began under a rain delay and when it finally started Reynaldo Lopez gave up three runs in the first inning.
It kept raining throughout the afternoon, but not enough for another rain delay. Lopez only threw 4.1 innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits, including three home runs. Tommy Phan hit two of them.
The Rays beat the White Sox 9-1, and the fifth straight loss featured this ugly play from Daniel Palka, who completely missed a line drive hit at him in right field.
Along with some bad defense to start the year, Palka still doesn't have a hit. The left-handed slugger went 0-for-2 with a walk on Wednesday and is now 0-for-25 to begin the 2019 season. Going back to the end of 2018, Palka doesn't have a hit in his last 27 at-bats.
Still not as bad as Chris Davis, who just set a new record for the longest hitless streak by a non-pitcher in MLB history. Davis is 0-for-49 dating back to 2018 and 0-for-28 to start 2019.
The White Sox have Thursday off before a quick three-game series on the road against the Yankees. The White Sox have the worst ERA in baseball after giving up 45 runs in the last five games.
