Maybe Rick Renteria needed some extra time to catch up on Game of Thrones before tonight's third episode of the final season, as the White Sox manager was ejected in the bottom of the third inning.
Jose Abreu looked to reach safely after a swinging strike three that got away from the Tigers catcher, but the umpire ruled Abreu out because was inside the base line going to first base. Renteria wasn't thrilled about the call and after a conversation with the home plate umpire, Renteria made sure to make his point, going down the line and protesting that Abreu did nothing wrong.
Here's the play from the Tigers broadcast.
Technically it was the right call, but for some reason I'm not sure why almost every single rule in MLB has some gray area and fans can argue semantics for hours.
Renteria has now been ejected twice this season. In 2018, he was kicked out five times, but that's nothing compared to his first season with the White Sox in 2017, when he was thrown out seven times.
