The White Sox have been scuffling as of late and although it's been because of a struggling offense they are getting a boost to their pitching staff with their latest roster moves.
Prior to Thursday night's series finale in Cleveland the White Sox activated left-handed pitchers Aaron Bummer and Carlos Rodón from the 45-day injured list. To make room on the 28-man roster the team DFA'd lefty Ross Detwiler and right-handed reliever Steve Cishek.
Detwiler began the season pitching 10 straight scoreless outings, but has allowed seven earned runs in the last 7.1 innings. Meanwhile, Cishek hasn't been able to consistently get through clean innings this year, posting a 5.40 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 22 outings for the White Sox.
The return of Bummer is huge, as he'll give Rick Renteria another great option to use in high-leverage situations late in games. Bummer was great in 2019 and was off to another good start this season before going down with an arm injury in August.
As for Rodón, you just want as many arms available that you hope you can count on. Will he be able to stay healthy? Hopefully, and if he does then the White Sox have some solid pitching up and down their staff heading into the postseason.
