Typically baseball games get postponed for inclement weather. It could be heavy rains or snow and sometimes it is too cold to play baseball outdoors. But, the reasoning for today's postponement was one that many baseball fans are not used to hearing, poor air quality.
Mars-Like Backdrop
Many images surfaced earlier today of the conditions over Yankee Stadium. Most of these pictures looked like they were photoshopped, as they were not the typical conditions over in the Bronx.
I cannot imagine the air is of good enough quality to play a major league sport in, let alone do anything outside. It is crazy how far the smoke and debris have traveled from the Canadian wildfires.
As this tweet can confirm, the air quality is absolutely horrible and nobody should be outside. Hopefully, everyone in the area can stay safe, as it could potentially cause some problems.
Doubleheader Tomorrow
Luckily, MLB is smart enough to know that players should not be out in this and they have postponed the game until tomorrow.
It will turn into a double header tomorrow for the White Sox, as they look to extend their four-game win streak and creep closer to first place. The Twins do play tonight, however, so the White Sox could be only four games out by the end of the day.
When a team plays a doubleheader, they are allowed to bring a player up on the roster because of the second game. It is likely that the White Sox will bring up Jesse Scholtens, as teams usually bring up pitchers because 18 innings can tax the bullpen.
Hopefully, the Sox can take at least one tomorrow, as somehow they are right in the race for the AL Central crown.
