The Chicago White Sox stink, the American League Central stinks and apparently a few Minnesota Twins players actually stink or have some hygiene issues because they had a mini pink eye outbreak. Despite that, those guys with pink eye still beat the White Sox.
Willi Castro and Joey Gallo both missed the first two games against the White Sox this past weekend, as the pair of players were scratched from the starting lineup on Friday night. Minnesota manager Rocco Baldelli said to the press that pink eye had spread in the Twins' clubhouse and that Castro couldn't put his contact lenses in because of it.
On Sunday, Castro pinch-hit in the ninth inning and delivered an RBI-double. He later scored with two outs to tie the game at three and then in extra innings Gallo scored in the 10th, tying the game at four, leading to an eventual 5-4 Twins win and a sweep over the White Sox.
It turns out Gallo's vision was still pretty bad when he came in to the game. He was the pinch runner in the 10th inning and then played left field. The left-handed slugger then came up to bat in the 11th inning, when the Twins had runners at first and third with two outs.
It was a bizarre thing to watch, but on the first pitch Gallo attempted a bunt against White Sox lefty Tanner Banks.
Via the Star Tribune.
Gallo's vision was so blurred that when he batted in the 11th, with runners on first and third and two outs, the hulking slugger bunted for the first time this season, popping out to first. "I figured I had one shot at it before they realized I couldn't see," Gallo said.
The Twins walked-off with a win, getting a two-out hit in the 12th inning from Ryan Jeffers.
White Sox Trade Rumors, News, Notes
Trade Tim Anderson?
Tim Anderson is hitting .292 in the month of July and on Sunday the shortstop had his sixth multi-hit game in nine games since the All-Star break. Anderson went 14-for-37, a .378 batting average on the nine-game road trip against the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets and Minnesota Twins.
Despite an awful first-half of the 2023 season, Anderson is still viewed by some around the league as a valuable player that may be available at the trade deadline.
And this was surprising to see, apparently the majority of White Sox fans are ready to see Anderson traded.
Andrew Vaughn Still Injured
The White Sox played the last five games of their road trip a man short on their active roster, as first baseman Andrew Vaughn has been dealing with a foot injury.
For some reason the White Sox have not yet placed Vaughn on the injured list. Vaughn hasn't played since last Tuesday against the New York Mets.
Trade With Reds?
The Cincinnati Reds are reportedly shopping 2021 Rookie of the Year Jonathan India in exchange for controllable starting pitching. White Sox fans have been debating whether or not it's good idea to trade 27-year-old starter Michael Kopech for the 26-year-old second baseman.
Well, how about a bigger trade proposal that includes Dylan Cease?
Oscar Colas Has a Cannon
White Sox rookie right fielder Oscar Colas has struggled at the plate in 2023, but his throwing arm is already looking like one of the best in baseball.
Hopefully Colas can turn it around at the plate. Since he was called up from Triple-A early in July, the rookie has slashed .233/.227/.279, going 10-for-43 at the plate, with no home runs and two doubles, while also striking out 16 times and walking none.
