Right-handed hitting outfielder Micker Adolfo had a breakout 2018 season at Winston-Salem, posting a .833 OPS in 79 games. He had 11 home runs, 18 doubles and drove in 50 runs before his year came to an erupt end. Adolfo needed Tommy John surgery to repair his right elbow last July, but he did make a full recovery and began 2019 at Double-A.
However, Adolfo's return to the field has been a bumpy experience, hitting only .205, with a .632 OPS in 78 at-bats. On Monday, Adolfo was placed on the seven-day injured list with an elbow issue. The same elbow he had surgery on last summer.
This stint on the injured list comes after Adolfo was actually starting to turn it around at the plate. In his last 10 games he was 10-for-37, with five doubles, getting a hit in eight of those 10 games, including a seven-game hitting streak.
Hopefully this isn't a major setback for Adolfo. The right-fielder is currently ranked as the White Sox No. 8 prospect by MLB Pipeline.
And if it seems like a lot of prospects keep going down with injuries for the White Sox you're not going crazy. If you go by MLB Pipeline's rankings, six of the organization's top-10 prospects have missed significant time since 2018.
Eloy Jiménez just went on the injured list with an ankle sprain and although there was no fracture, the White Sox don't have a timetable for his return. He'll be re-evaluated in a couple weeks.
Michael Kopech is recovering from Tommy John surgery. He's going to miss all of the 2019 season after making four starts in 2018.
Luis Robert had a couple thumb injuries and battled through wrist soreness last season. He was only able to play in 50 games in 2018.
Right-handed pitcher Dane Dunning only made 15 starts in 2018, and was then forced to miss the second half of the season with an arm injury. In March, Dunning had to undergo Tommy John surgery.
Back in February, outfielder Luis Basabe broke his hand. He returned on April 22, and is currently in Double-A.
And of course there's Adolfo, who had Tommy John surgery last July and is back on the injured list.
