The first NFL video game I remember playing was Madden 2001 on PlayStation, but either I was too dumb to know how to save my franchise mode or my brother was hiding the memory card from me. Anyway, it wasn't until NFL 2K2 that I could finally run my first franchise and obviously I was running the show with Jim Miller and the Bears. What does this have to do with White Sox prospect Luis Robert? Well, I remember just running a simple pitch play almost every time to James Allen and no matter what he'd either stiff arm a defender, or get away with a spin move. Like, seriously, every carry was at least a 50-yard run. Why? I had that shit on rookie mode. I was trying to put up some numbers and break records.
Right now Robert has his settings on easy mode down with Winston-Salem, while everyone else is trying to track down James Allen running down the sideline.
On Monday, the White Sox prospect went 4-for-5, with a triple and his eighth home run of the season. Robert's only played in 19 games at high A-Ball and he already has 34 hits and 24 RBIs, to go along with 16 extra-base hits.
After his 4-for-5 night, Robert now has a 1.432 OPS.
That was his first four-hit game of the season and he's only been held hitless in three of the 19 games played. Robert began the year with at least two hits in 10 of the first 11 games.
Overall, Robert is now slashing .453/.512/.920, in 75 at-bats.
The Carolina League is too easy for Robert right now. The next highest batting average behind Robert is at .404. Impressive, but still 49 points less than the White Sox outfielder. The second closest slugging % to Robert is only at .593. Again, Robert is at .920!
The White Sox have to promote Robert soon, because as much fun as it is slugging nearly 1.000 and rushing for 50 yards a carry with some backup running back, you eventually do want a challenge.
Man, NFL 2K2 really did make rookie mode a little too easy.
