If there's one thing we know about a Paul brother fight card it's that we can expect a circus. This is seemingly especially true with Jake Paul's fight cards.
So yes, this headline is accurate. We are now set to get a former NFL Pro Bowler fighting a former NBA Allstar when running back Frank Gore takes on guard Deron Williams on the Paul vs. Tommy Fury pay-per-view on December 18.
Ariel Helwani reported Tuesday that Gore vs. Williams is a done deal for the December 18 Showtime PPV after it was first reported as a possibility last week. According to Helwani, "The fight will take place at 215 pounds. Four three-minute rounds with ten-ounce gloves. It will open the pay-per-view portion of the card, set to take place at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla., and will be sanctioned as a pro bout." Frank Gore: Gore is currently 38 years old and played 16 seasons in the NFL, retiring after the 2020 season. Gore ended his career with 16,000 rushing yards which places him the third in the highest career rushing yards list behind only Emmitt Smith and the Chicago Bears' Walter Payton. Gore was a five time NFL Pro Bowler. He was listed at 5' 9" and 212 pounds. Deron Williams: Williams is currently 37 years old and played 14 seasons in the NBA, retiring in 2017. The former University of Illinois star is a three time NBA Allstar. According to Helwani, Williams is a co-owner of Fortis MMA in Dallas, one of the top MMA gyms in the world, and has been interested in martial arts for the past few years. Williams was listed at 6' 3" and 200 pounds. The PPV Card: The fight is set to take place as the PPV opener on the Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury card. Fury is the half-brother of heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury. Both Paul and Tommy Fury are undefeated in their young pro boxing careers. At least with this celebrity boxing type of fight we have two former professional athletes pitted against each other with no legitimate combat experience in the past. In other words, it should hopefully be relatively evenly matched unlike some other celebrity boxing matches we've seen recently.
