Padres Prove Why Getting Into A Fight Is The Dumbest Thing In Baseball

We had ourselves a good old fashioned baseball fight on Wednesday, which means lots of shoving, yelling and no one actually landing a punch. At the end, it just proved how dumb fights are in baseball because nothing but bad results from them. So, the San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies had a beanball war that seems to have started on Tuesday night. That's when Manuel Margot got hit in the ribs and was placed on the 10-day DL by the Padres. So, during Wednesday's game, the Padres hit Trevor Story. It continued, as the Rockies then hit Hunter Renfroe the following inning. The pissing contest reached its dumbass climax in the third inning, when Padres' starter Luis Perdomo threw at Rockies' star third baseman Nolan Arenado. This is what resulted.

This was incredibly stupid. Let's start with Arenado. He's the best player for the Rockies. He can't be losing his mind and risk a lengthy suspension that ends up hurting his team. And speaking of the team, this is why you don't start a dumbass beanball war because you risk the health of one of your star players and a suspension too. Now, let's get to the Padres. So, San Diego isn't going to be good this year and unlike the Rockies losing a player isn't as big of a deal. However, we're under the assumption that every team is doing everything possible to win every game. Well, how exactly is having your starting pitcher and catcher ejected in the third inning helpful? And I know, you're going to say these guys are just standing up for their teammates and that's all well and good, but then don't go on and complain about how the team's bullpen is worn down in the middle of April after a starting pitcher was ejected in the third inning for throwing at a guy. By the way, what's the point of throwing at guys in this scenario. This wasn't pitching inside, trying to own the inner half of the plate and a pitch got away. They were throwing at each other for what, revenge? Are these players that stupid? Maybe they are because it keeps happening and then you know what's going to happen down the road between these teams? They're probably going to throw at each other again. Now, I'll agree that as dumb as these fights are they are entertaining. On the other hand, most of the time they're entertaining because the players end up looking pathetic.

Oh, and after the Padres lost their starting battery, the Rockies scored five runs in the inning. At least San Diego got their revenge! The game? Who cares?! They sure got the Rockies good by losing.
